The State of Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) will no longer accept ink and roll fingerprints on paper fingerprint submission cards. BCI now requires digital fingerprints be electronically sent as a part of a criminal background check.
What is WebCheck and why is it used for background checks?
Since 1993, the Ohio General Assembly has passed numerous state laws requiring background checks for certain occupations including individuals who work with children, those who work with the elderly, certain licensed professionals and persons working in the financial industry.
WebCheck is an Internet-based program for conducting fingerprint-based civilian background checks. Criminal background checks using WebCheck allow Corporate Screening to electronically capture and transfer complete, accurate information including fingerprint images and textual data, and obtain criminal record results within two business days or less.
Corporate Screening can send fingerprint images and other data over the Internet using a single digit fingerprint scanner and a driver’s license magnetic strip reader. Data transferred via the Internet is encrypted both at the agency site and BCI&I, and the program is password-protected. If no criminal history match is found, Corporate Screening clients will receive the results of their background check requests within two business days or less. If there is a criminal history match, the program will indicate that the results will be mailed. Mailed results will be received by the agency in seven to 10 business days. No criminal history information is sent via the Internet.
